Mariela Burkett’s life has been all about momentum, since being declared cancer-free over five years ago. Mariela took her commitment to fitness, personal training, and inspiring others to a whole new, epic level, from the moment she reached remission. The result is her now famous Survivor Bootcamp. Part fitness class, part revival and part family reunion, the Survivor Bootcamp is quintessential Mariela: fierce, passionate, challenging and uplifting. The Bootcamp is something that must be experienced to be truly understood and appreciated. This annual event was Mariela’s first campaign to support others fighting cancer, with all proceeds going directly to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Words From Mariela Burkett
This past year has been one of growth. Growth in focus and emotional growth.
In 2016, I became an FTEC Ambassador and with that, unbeknownst to me at the time, meant growth as a person. Because of this familial integration, I found that my focus in my fight to end cancer became clearer. I had always known that with my personal survivor story, I needed to speak and share with whoever would listen, in hopes that I could spread awareness of the mental struggle associated with a cancer diagnoses and help one person.
This newfound family that took me in as a member, provided me a larger platform to spread my story, to reach more individuals, while at the same time donating my time with my Survivor Bootcamp and money raised to their campaign.I found purpose and became focused and wanted more.
How else can I help other than my bootcamp? What better way than having anyone I have every coached get back at me with Burpees. For every dollar donated towards my fight to end cancer, I give them 1 burpee. This began the BuckABurpee Campaign.
I have also moved ahead with my Gear By MarielaFit and partnered up with some great organizations and together we donate a percentage of sales towards the fight as well.
I have become more focused!
Emotionally, I have another family. A family that relates and understands with no judgements. A family that I very much needed during diagnoses and surgery. I have experienced what it feels like to be surrounded with a group of passionate individuals that have one common goal: Fighting to End Cancer!
