The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) Media Weigh Ins were Thursday night and the event was a HUGE success!  This year saw a record turnout, which took place at the prestigious Kasa Moto in the heart of Yorkville.  The epic rooftop patio, combined with the breezy summer weather, set the scene for an unforgettable evening!  Guests enjoyed complementary OMT Vineyards wine donated by Old Mill Toronto and beer from our official partners at Steam Whistle.   The Kasa Moto kitchen prepared an incredible selection of Japanese cuisine to the over 400 guests of the Media Event.
FTEC Founder and Executive Director, Jennifer Huggins, and her partner in crime and FTEC Head Coach and Director Virgil Barrow, along with their incredible crew of staff and volunteers, set the stage.  Media, sponsors, family and friends attended the event to celebrate the true heroes, the fighters.

Notable media appearances were made by Global News anchor and FTEC 2018 gala co-host Angie Seth, CTV W5 host and FTEC 2018 co-host Kevin Newman, and many others.  Former Canadian heavyweight champion and star of TV’s Big Brother Canada, Dillon “Big Country” Carman was also on-hand, coaching the fighters on some pro-level trash talk.  The event was a great appetizer in advance of the main course, the FTEC2018 Gala being held at the Old Mill Toronto on Saturday June 2nd.

Special thanks go out to this year’s presenting sponsors, Landscape Plus and Combustion Training, for their ongoing support.  Their commitment, along with our incredible FTEC sponsors and family, have helped the event grow year after year.  We have raised over $870,000.00 to date for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Our Live Auction Partner, Humbertown Jewellers  also joined us this year.  Their generous live auction donation of a prestigious Omega watch is sure to draw out the cheque books on fight night.

The real stars of the evening were the FTEC 2018 fighters, as always!  There are only days to go until they step inside the ring and this event gave them the chance to have a little fun with each other, before facing off and exchanging punches.  The crowd was treated to a MARVELous surprise when Comic book hero Deadpool showed up in support of Alison “No Bull” Turnbull who is in the co-main event with Dawn “Wonder Woman” Millar.  All “jabs” aside, it was very evident that these ten men and women have developed quite the familial bond, one that will no doubt carry on long after their 3 rounds are done.

Deadpool was busy making his rounds. He dropped in with 2018 Fighter, Heather MacDonald and her family after her weigh-in.

The entire FTEC family would like to send out a special thank you to the Kasa Moto team and to all those who came out to support and who continue to support us year after year.  It is because of people like you that beating cancer is possible!

No matter what… Defeat Is NOT An Option!
