Defeat Is NOT An Option | Introducing The 2018 Fight To End Cancer Fight Team

Thursday, April 26, 2018 — TORONTO, ON The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) is thrilled to announce its official 2018 Fight Team benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  The team have been training for six months in sanctioned, Olympic style boxing.  These ten brave men and women, with little to no previous boxing experience, will be stepping into the ring for our 7th Annual Fight To End Cancer Charity Gala.  The event is hosted by Angie Seth of Global News and Kevin Newman of CTV’s W5, on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at the historic Old Mill Toronto.

The 2018 Fight Team, in combination with our presenting partners [Landscape Plus Ltd. and Combustion Training], are poised to make FTEC history.  Their collective goal is to break the $1 million dollar mark in total contributions raised by FTEC in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

The 2018 Fight Team is a diverse group of individuals, with a wide variety of experiences and expertise, all coming together for a common purpose.  Our Main event features two successful, yet very different combatants.  Dr. Gavin Grant sponsored by Wolfepoint Consulting, holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering and applies his skills to the cleaning of sites with contaminated soil around the world.  Rick Dhillon, sponsored by Make It Happen Media, is a successful realtor and real-estate investor, leading a team of real-estate professionals.

Our co-main event will feature two of our female fighters, both highly successful professionals and both looking to walk away with the decision.  Alison Turnbull is the latest fighter from Eagle Professional Resources where she is Delivery Manager – Permanent Placement, placing professionals into the next step in their careers.  Dawn Millar, sponsored by City Alliance Real Estate, runs a very tight ship as the Chief Operating Officer for a well respected law firm specializing in Aboriginal law.  She also holds a blue belt in Brazillian Jujitsu, which may prove as an asset on fight-night.  The other six members of the FTEC 2018 fight team are equally impressive and include a Marketing Coordinator, Sales Executive, Head of IT, Flight Attendant, Custom Clothier Stylist and a Partner at a law firm.  Collectively, they have all committed to taking time from already busy lives, to work together to bring us all one step closer to knocking out cancer for good.

Our sponsors are also jumping into their corners to help raise funds leading up to, and even following, the 2018 event.  One of our national ambassadors, Tip Top Tailors, raised over $60,000 in 2017.  They have set a goal to double 2018 donations with their “Wear Your Support” Campaign – the sale of exclusive FTEC tie-clips – available in all Tip Top stores.

Jennifer Huggins, FTEC founder and executive director keep the team on track, along with her partner in crime and Official FTEC Team coach, Virgil Barrow.  The duo continue to inspire those who are fortunate enough to step into their ring, with their unwavering commitment to the cause.  Jennifer continues to do it all while maintaining a very busy schedule as a 3 Star boxing Referee with AIBA International Boxing Association.  This job has taken her to India, Colombia, Cuba and Venezuela in the last year alone.  She also moonlights as a magicians assistant, a gig that taps into her more artistic side as a former competitive figure skater.  It’s an understatement to say she’s inspirational.  We asked Jennifer about her continuing commitment to the cause and what it represents to her:

“The reality of what the Fight To End Cancer represents is bittersweet.  Something that threatens to tear our lives apart has brought so many people together.  Seven years ago, I started this event to give back to the community.  The Fight To End Cancer has since become a community in itself; a family working together towards one goal.  My vision evolved from being a fundraiser, to becoming a global movement that we are all part of.  We are fighting for a future free of cancer, and we will succeed.

Defeat Is NOT An Option!”

There is only six weeks to go until fight night, the event is almost sold out, however, the fighters can still use your support in reaching their team fundraising goal supporting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Go to to Donate!
