We would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to one of our youngest fighters on the card, James Hughes.
James ‘Bad News’ Hughes is a 17 year old, 75KG amateur boxer from St. Catharines Ontario.  He boxes under the tutelage of John Robertson and club founder, Joe Corrigan, at St. Catherines Boxing Club.  Joe Corrigan, started coaching boxing in 1983 and his endeavours have earned him many recognitions.  These achievements include the 2001 Jack Gatecliff trophy for organizing boxing events in St. Catharines, the St. Catharines 2002 Sports person of the Year for his efforts in promoting amateur boxing and staging numerous boxing championships in St. Catharines.
James is a big kid so he naturally gravitated to basketball as a young man, but found what he really enjoyed was boxing his ten brothers and sisters.  He is still very heavily involved with competitive basketball, but James loves the sport of boxing.
“I started boxing because my brother fought and he showed me the sport from a young age.  Because of him, I love boxing”

~ James Hughes, Friday Night Fights ‘To End Cancer’ Fighter

James has only been boxing for three years, however, he has natural talent, granite chin and immense passion for the sport.  These have earned him a silver at provincials, the opportunity to compete at nationals, and a trip to the Kansas City Ringside World Championships twice!
James is a very active boxer, having already accumulated over 20 amateur bouts.  He concerns himself largely with building his experience and skill level, as he focuses on qualifying for the 2020 Olympics.

James’ Fight To End Cancer

My uncle died from cancer, and to end cancer is big to me, because it affects so many people and families!  I’m honoured to have the opportunity to fight for something so important to so many, while showcasing a sport that has given me so much.

The fight card will feature some of Canada’s best boxers holding provincial and national titles.  These fighters may be matched up to put on the ‘fight of the night’, but they are all fighting for one cause!  Our Co-Main and Main Event fights will feature Mark Smither and Kassandra O’Reilly – they both fought on the inaugural Fight To End Cancer card in 2012.  We will be starting the show off with a couple of novice boxers who are up and coming!
We can’t wait to showcase the best of boxing at the Friday Night ‘Fights To End Cancer’.  Huge thank you to The Gentlemen’s Expo (TGE) for joining us in the Fight To End Cancer!  Learn more about what this cause means to TGE2017 Info/Donate Now
