The Cairns Family and Friends, Fight To End Cancer Ambassadors, teamed up with Hawk Ridge Golf Club to bring together golfers and supporters for a day dedicated to raising awareness and funds to end cancer in our lifetime.

The Cairns family and friends couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day to host their second annual ‘Golf To End Cancer’ Ambassador event last Thursday. Their tireless efforts leading up to the event paid off, with 40 golfers participating on the 9-hole course at Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club. The day began with coffee and donuts for the foursomes, followed by a shotgun tee-off at 11 am. Each team received PMCF canvas grab bags thoughtfully stuffed with energy bars and snacks to help them through the beautiful course.

After the round, the foursomes gathered at lovely outdoor pavilion for delicious BBQ lunch, a silent auction, and a raffle featuring personalized items and swag from Fight To End Cancer partners, Labatt and local businesses. Each golf participant also received $50 tax receipt as part of their fees! The event concluded with a heartfelt speech from Rennie Cairns and an award presentation by FTEC Founder, Jennifer Huggins. Between the event festivities and the fundraising efforts leading up to the event, the Cairns family and friends – Joe Caputo and Deke Macdonald, met their ambitious goal of raising $7500 in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, almost triple what was raised in their first year!

The Cairns Family raised $7,550 from their 2024 golf event. Combined with their 2023 efforts, they have raised a total of $10,000 for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

More About Golf To End Cancer and The Cairn’s Fight To End Cancer

In 2023, Liz and Rennie Cairns, alongside their son Mitchell, witnessed firsthand the courage and determination displayed as he stepped into the ring to Fight To End Cancer. Inspired by his ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the Cairns family took the reins in organizing the inaugural Golf To End Cancer event.

In 2023, the Cairns family rallied support, raising over $2,600 in the inaugural Golf To End Cancer Tournament, with friends and family joining from across the province. They now host this ambassador event annually, with the goal of ending cancer in our lifetime.

Their tireless dedication paid off, with the event raising over $2,600 in its inaugural year. Inspired by this success, the Cairns family and friends are now eager to transform the event into an annual ambassador initiative. They extend a warm invitation to community members and friends to register and join in this meaningful cause each year.

“The generosity of friends, family, business colleagues and the Orillia and Toronto area communities has made our 2nd annual charity “Golf to End Cancer” event at Hawk Ridge Golf Club a HUGE success! Thank you for your unwavering support in helping to end cancer in our lifetime – Defeat is not an option!”

About The Fight To End Cancer
The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) is a year-round initiative driven by ambassadors, sponsors, and volunteers worldwide. Since our inception in 2012, we have donated nearly $3 million to the cause. Funds raised by FTEC go directly to the GTX Program at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Each year, we honour the hard work and dedication of our FTEC family through alternating events: a black-tie charity boxing gala and our newest initiative, The Friday Night Fights ‘To End Cancer’. Our mission is to raise funds for cancer research year-round with the support of the local community and business owners. Together, we will end cancer in our lifetime.
