The Fight to End Cancer (FTEC) is about more than just stepping into the ring—it’s about resilience, perseverance, and mental fortitude.
This year, FTEC is proud to welcome Dr. Taylor Armstrong, an esteemed Sports Psychiatrist, who is generously donating his time to support the mental health and performance of our 2025 Fight Team.
Dr. Armstrong is a recognized leader in the field of sports psychiatry, with an impressive career dedicated to enhancing the mental well-being of athletes. His work spans across multiple prestigious institutions, including:
- LiveActive Sports Medicine Health and Performance
- David L. MacIntosh Sports Medicine Clinic at the University of Toronto
- The George Hull Centre for Children and Families, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry
- Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry
Dr. Armstrong has devoted much of his career to helping children and adolescents navigate challenges related to neurodevelopmental disorders, trauma, and the role of mental health in high-performance environments. Since 2020, he has focused on the mental health needs of elite athletes, supporting individuals competing at levels ranging from youth sports to the Olympic Games.
Strengthening The Mind to Strengthen The Fighter
Preparing for a fight is both a physical and mental battle. It requires determination, self-discipline, and the ability to overcome doubt, fear, and adversity. As a consultant psychiatrist with a certificate in Sports Psychiatry from the International Society of Sports Psychiatry (ISSP), Dr. Armstrong understands the unique mental pressures faced by athletes. His expertise in performance psychology, resilience training, and athlete wellness will provide FTEC fighters with invaluable guidance in managing stress, improving focus, and maintaining a winning mindset.
A Personal Commitment to Community and Sport
Dr. Armstrong’s connection to the FTEC community runs deep. Having grown up in Toronto’s west end, he still calls Etobicoke home, where he lives with his wife, two children, and an ever-growing number of pets. He is no stranger to the world of competitive sports, both as a parent and coach, and he continues to learn from those experiences in shaping his work with athletes today.
Fighting for Mental and Physical Health
With Dr. Armstrong’s support, our fighters will not only train their bodies but also sharpen their minds, ensuring they step into the ring fully prepared for the challenge ahead. His involvement highlights the importance of mental wellness in all aspects of competition and life.
We are grateful for his generous contribution to The Fight to End Cancer, and we know that his expertise, compassion, and dedication will make a significant impact on our fight team.
With professionals like Dr. Armstrong in our corner, we continue to build a stronger, healthier, and more resilient community—inside and outside the ring.
