Robert Serrano is sixteen years old, weighs 141 lbs and has 7 bouts.  He started boxing at Ajax Boxing Club in 2014.  He has since competed in various club shows, as well as competing in Bronze gloves and Silver gloves in 2017.

“I am focused on continuing to build my skill and experience through competition and training hard.”

~ Robert Serrano, Friday Night ‘Fights To End Cancer’ Fighter

Robert practiced Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu for about a year before stopping.  He enjoyed the hand skills much more than other forms of striking and grappling, which led him to begin boxing, a sport he was always intrigued by.  His dad, also an avid boxing fan, raised Robert in a Filipino household, where every Manny Pacquiao fight was a family event.
Robert wasn’t sure where to begin his boxing career and it was through his uncle, who had been training at the Ajax Boxing Club, that he started to train.  He continues to fight for Ajax Boxing Club today.  Competing at the amateur level was his goal from the beginning of his boxing journey.  He credits his coaches Bernard Dadula, John Zammit, and Colin Matchim, as well as sparring and training hard with boxers of all ages and weight classes, for helping him hone his skills and fitness level.  Robert was eventually ready to compete, having his first bout in 2016.

Words From Robert

My club, my coaches, and the sport of boxing all mean so much to me; they have all shaped me as a person.  The boxing club became my second home and the people there are like a second family.  The coaches are like parental figures to me, the level of trust and the bond built between us, has helped me excel even further in boxing and to grow as an individual.
Boxing is like nothing else, from the training and sparring, to fighting inside the ring.  Boxing has given me a sense of accomplishment, and hunger to do more and to do better, unlike anything else.  It has given me a great deal of self-confidence and drive, which helps me in all aspects of life.
I was born and raised in the Durham region and have lived in Whitby all my life.  I am currently in grade 11.  I’m much like most teenagers, aside from boxing.  I like to play video games, have good times with my friends, eat good food and all that good stuff!

Robert’s Fight To End Cancer

I think almost everyone has someone they know that has been touched by cancer.  My two grandparents both passed away due to cancer a few years ago, and I have friends whose parents, and other family members are battling cancer. One of my coaches has a sister currently battling cancer.  Cancer can affect anyone, it doesn’t discriminate by race, age, gender, or anything at all.  I am thrilled to be a part of this event, to help those battling cancer, as well as their loved ones.
