An Olympic medal and a place on the podium, is the goal that all athletes strive for within their own career. Once attained, their medal’s serve as a reminder of their athletic achievements.
If you were to hear that an Olympian has decided to sell their Olympic medal what would be the first thing comes to mind? Are they crazy?! What are they thinking?!
Well that is what Polish Olympian and Silver Medalist Piotr Malachowski is doing! However, he has decided to auction his prized medal for an amazing cause. When Piotr heard the story of 3-year-old Olek Szymanski’s battle with a rare form of cancer, he knew he had to help the young polish boy!
“In Rio, I fought for the gold. Today I appeal to everyone – let’s fight together about something that is even more precious.”

While the survival rate of this cancer is very high, the chance of the child losing their vision or their eyes is very much possible. That is why Piotr has decided to sell his silver medal, to help raise more funds to get Olek the treatment he needs in the United States. Piotr shares all the qualities and feelings that everyone at the The Fight To End Cancer has, our goal is to end cancer within our lifetime.
