Every day Dawn Millar finds her motivation to train for FTEC 2018 in the eyes of her children.  Dawn’s father passed away due to cancer at the age of 51, just months before the birth of Dawn’s first child, who was his first grandchild.  Dawn felt like her life had ‘blown apart’ when she lost her Dad, but as an FTEC fighter she wants to prove that Defeat is Not an Option!

“On Saturday, June 2, 2018, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone and into a ring, to compete in a charity boxing match in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Fight to End Cancer is an event unlike any other.  Myself, along with my #FTEC2018 teammates, will commit endless hours and energy, for the next seven months to train as amateur boxers for this life-changing event.  So in June 2018, I will be putting on my boxing gloves and stepping into the ring to FIGHT BACK against cancer.

I have a very personal interest in the goal of this event, having lost my father to cancer at the age of 51.  We were all devastated by his sudden passing.  I discovered I was pregnant with my first child, during the short and difficult time between my dad’s diagnosis and passing.  For those of you who knew my dad, you know how thrilled he was to have learned of his first grandchild, a grandchild he was so very excited to meet, but never got the chance to.  I will be fighting this fight in honour of my dad, and for the lost time we should have shared, and the memories we should have made together.

Since my father’s passing, I have gone on to witness the intense and painful struggles of my father-in-law, and two very dear friends who have had to fight this terrible disease.  I am very thankful to say that their personal fights have been successful.

Cancer has affected the lives of too many of our friends and family, and I want to help bring an end to this devastating disease!  I am hopeful that in my lifetime we will be able to stop fighting and finally BEAT cancer!  I ask you all to please support me on this journey and donate to make a difference in the future of cancer research.

Thank you!”

ABOUT FIGHT TO END CANCER

Founded in 2011, the Fight To End Cancer has donated over $750,000.00, in support of cancer research, with proceeds going directly to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
The year-long fundraising efforts of the Fight To End Cancer are celebrated each year in an event like no other.  Featuring a new group of white-collar men and women, with no prior boxing experience, Fight To End Cancer’s annual black tie gala concludes months of their intense training, in a sanctioned Olympic-style boxing event.
Fight To End Cancer has quickly grown to become a premium fundraiser and showcases these brave individuals, as they lace up their gloves and step into our ring to help knock out cancer.
