The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) Media Weigh Ins were Thursday night and the event was a HUGE success!  This year saw a record turnout, which took place at Lavelle Rooftop Lounge.  The panoramic views of the city, combined with the breezy summer weather, set the scene for an unforgettable evening!  Guests enjoyed complementary OTM Vineyards wine donated by Old Mill Toronto and beer from our official partners at Steam Whistle.  Chef Romain Avril generously donated delicious sliders to the over 400 guests of the Media Event.

The presence of FTEC Founder and Executive Director, Jennifer Huggins, who has had to miss the past few years due to officiating obligations, made the night extra special.  Jennifer, and her partner in crime and FTEC Head Coach and Director Virgil Barrow, along with their incredible crew of staff and volunteers, set the stage.  Media, sponsors, family and friends attended the event to celebrate the true heroes, the FTEC2017 fighters.
Notable media appearances were made by Global News anchor and FTEC 2017 gala host Angie Seth, Sirius XM radio host Todd Shapiro and many others.  Canadian Pop Sensation Karl Wolf, who will be performing at this year’s Gala on Saturday May 27th, at the Old Mill Toronto, also attended.  A generous, on the spot donation of $1500.00, from Toronto Guardian‘s Joel Levy, tilted the scales toward the 2017 goal of $200,000.00.

Special thanks go out to this year’s presenting sponsors, Landscape Plus and Combustion, for their ongoing support.  Their commitment, along with our incredible FTEC sponsors and family, have helped the event grow year after year.  We have raised over $600,000.00 to date for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Our Live Auction Partner, Raffi Jewellersalso joined us this year.  Their generous live auction donation of a prestigious Hublot watch is sure to draw out the cheque books on fight night.

The real stars of the evening were the FTEC 2017 fighters, as always!  There are only days to go until they step inside the ring and this event gave them the chance to have a little fun with each other, before facing off and exchanging punches.  Alison Dellandrea and Kim Hamill, the event’s co-main event, drew gasps of admiration as they took their shirts off to reveal what 8 months in the boxing gym can do for your physique!  All “jabs” aside, it was very evident that these ten men and women have developed quite the familial bond, one that will no doubt carry on long after their 3 rounds are done.
