Cancer impacts us all. I lost two uncles to this terrible disease a few years back. Many of my close friends have similar stories of losing family and friends to cancer. More recently my mom battled breast cancer. Her tremendous strength, positive attitude and support of family and friends, along with the wonderful care from her medical personnel, have her cancer free and continuing to live her active lifestyle. There is no doubt that the donations put towards advancements in treatments made in fighting this disease assisted my mom in her victorious battle. I will continue my long time...

Initially, my fight was dedicated to my mom. But she's a really tough lady - one of a kind, and thank God, she was able to fight Cancer and kick it's ass. She's doing great today. Healthy and strong. But up until recently, I met someone who's just as strong as my mom, who experienced this battle at a different level. Her name is Mara. She lost her husband at a very young age... the age I will be, when I step into the ring. They were a beautiful family. But when I found out that he lost his life to this terrible disease, I decided to FIGHT for him....my fight will be dedicated to you Sergio. I...

I am participating in the 8th annual Fight To End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and am raising research dollars with a vision of reaching a goal we all share - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! Over the coming months, I have committed to a training program, which will conclude in a boxing match set to take place on Saturday, June 1, 2019. I am fighting in memory of family and friends that have succumb to cancer; I am fighting for family and friends that are fighting cancer today, I am fighting to end cancer. Please sponsor me and support my hard work...

I am sorry to say that I've encountered cancer way too many times in my life. Fortunate that it hasn't effected me personally, but unfortunate that it's effected loved ones around me. Proud of my daughter Selen who beat Leukemia and father Turkay who defeated lung cancer and is now doing well with his fight against prostate cancer. Having said which, not all of my loved ones were so fortunate. Despite their brave efforts my god-daughter Kayden lost her battle to neuroblastoma at the age of 9 and my cousin Lynda was taken by cervical cancer at the age of 29. Having carried both on my shoulders...

On June 1, 2019, I will step into the ring for the first time at the 8th annual Fight to End Cancer, in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Like many of you, cancer has touched my life in many ways. My grandmother successfully battled breast cancer, while my grandfather unfortunately lost his fight with melanoma. My husband fights cancer every day as a researcher and I can attest to the countless hours that researchers spend trying to answer the most difficult questions. These are the people that I will be fighting for on June 1st. The question that patients and researchers...

Community, I need your support To be FEARLESS. At a younger age, this was something I imagined about the person I wanted to become. A few more years of life helped me realize how silly that was – and impossible! Strange noises at night still terrify me. The thought of losing someone important terrifies me even more. I realize that my fears are part of who I am, and that there is nothing wrong with being afraid. It’s what makes us human. I also came to realize that strength is built from having those fears, listening to them, and, if the opportunity arises, tackling them head-on. But...

Anyone who knows me, understands that I’m not one for standing idle and watching things happen around me. That faith and compassion compels me to help those in need and care for everything and everyone, especially those less fortunate. I believe that if we all make an effort, we can affect change and make a difference. Yet, as I write this I’m reminded time after time of a feeling of fear and helplessness each and every time someone I loved and cared for told me they had cancer. Can’t even imagine how they must have felt being told they have it. To make it real, I started writing a...

Hello Friends, Family and Supporters, Those of you who me know that I love to take on any physical challenge. Its always been on my bucket list to step into the boxing ring and do an amateur fight.  This is about to get very real.  However, this fight isn’t about me.  I will be fighting for everyone who has been touched by cancer, and who are in a fight for their life every minute and every second of their day. Unfortunately, Cancer Does Not Discriminate, and in one form or another, we have all been affected by it. I will be right there fighting along side those fighting for hope, strength...

I am participating in the 8th annual Fight To End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I will be training for 7 months to be ready to step in the ring on June 1, 2018 for an Olympic Sanctioned Boxing Match. As part of My Fight I am raising research dollars with a vision of reaching a goal we all share - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! Currently, cancer is the leading cause of death among Canadians, and it is estimated that 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It is projected that by 2030 the number of cancers diagnosed will...

Cancer, this is a disease that will one day affect every single person on this planet. It may not affect everyone directly, but certainly indirectly. I was only 6 years old when my best friend’s father lost his life to brain cancer. At the time I had no idea what this thing called cancer was. I am now 36 years old and have witnessed numerous losses in my life to cancer. I never had the great honour of meeting my father-in-law, Adam. In 2007 he lost his life to Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he was only 52. No wife or daughter should ever have to endure such a tremendous loss. His memory...

My mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January, 2012. By then it was too late to reverse the disease. My parents could only hope that the doctors would slow its spread. The chemotherapy treatments were torture for my mom who suffered despite the excellent care she received. Mom died on October 5, 2012. Cancer took my Mom when she was 71. She led a healthy lifestyle, she had no other illnesses, and the women in her family were long-lived. The diagnosis and the illness baffled and terrified my parents and everyone else in my family. The doctors and nurses who helped my mom were great, but...

I am honored to announce that I have been chosen to be one of the ten fighters on The Fight To End Cancer 2018 team, in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. For the next six months I will be trained by professional boxing coaches who will push me to my limits both physically and mentally, so I will be ready to "Kick Cancer in the Butt" when I enter the boxing ring on June 2nd. Unfortunately, like most people, I have been affected by this disease personally. I have lost many loved ones including dear friends and family members and that is why this fundraising event is so important...

On Setember 21, 2007 my Dad was diagnosed with a malignant soft tissue sarcoma. I watched him battle this awful disease for over 2 years before passing away in 2009. My Dad faught harder than I ever knew was humanly possible. I'm fighting in honour of my him, and anyone else that is currently battling Cancer. I am proud to be part of the official FTEC2018 Fight Team competing in the 7th annual Fight To End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I am participating in the 7th annual Fight To End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I am raising research dollars with a vision of reaching a goal we all share - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! Unfortunately, members of my family have been touched by cancer. In 2013, my father was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Thankfully, the doctors were able to have it removed and he has since been in remission. My uncle Harry, unfortunately lost his battle to cancer in July of 2016 after he was diagnosed with brain cancer. My uncle was a remarkable man, who was incredibly gifted...

My mother-in-law recently fought and beat leukemia.  One of my oldest and dearest friends has battled cancer multiple times.  They faced this epic challenge with bravery, courage, and strength, and won with the support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, and the incredible work that this organization does every day. I've watched and supported the FTEC from arm's length for several years now but I've realized that it's time for me to step up and get in the ring.  I have always been relatively healthy, so I'm in a position where I can fight to make a difference since so many people...

Cancer! They say it affects every family in some way, here is my story: I remember being in elementary school and my older brother called out to me and said, "Hey, you have to come watch this guy". The "guy" he was referring to was 'Iron Mike Tyson', I watched that fight and was hooked. My brother and I must of watched hundreds of fights together after that, it was one of our favorite pastimes, that and playing Fight Night on Xbox , yes he introduced me to video games too and all other cool things life had to offer. My older brother, is the best definition of a loving sibling that anyone...

After attending this event two years ago and watching my friend in the ring, I decided to try out for the team.  Unfortunately, I was not selected for the 2017 fight team but was fortunate enough to be selected as part of the FTEC2018 team and this year it means a lot more. We have all been touched by this horrible disease and unfortunately, most of the time we sit back hopelessly, while our friends and loved ones suffer and this year my participation means a lot more as it has hit closer to home. As a selected member of the FTEC2018 fight team, my goal is to raise money and awareness for...

October 1, 2017 - 10:40 pm

On Saturday, June 2, 2018, I will be stepping out of my comfort zone and into a ring to compete in a charity boxing match in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Fight to End Cancer is an event unlike any other.  Myself, along with my #FTEC2018 teammates, will commit endless hours and energy for the next seven months to train as amateur boxers for this life-changing event. So in June 2018, I will be putting on my boxing gloves and stepping into the ring to FIGHT BACK against cancer. I have a very personal interest in the goal of this event, having lost my father to cancer...

I am beyond thrilled that I’ve been selected to be part of #FTEC2018’s fight team. I will be spending the next 7 months training with 9 other ‘non-boxing professionals’ – and on June 2, 2018 I will be stepping into the ring to ‘literally’ fight to end cancer. In June of 2016, my mother Iris Collins – one of the most vibrant, healthy, amazing and giving people I have ever known - was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and within 10 weeks she was gone.  I am fighting for her – as well as for the countless others I know who have been impacted by this terrible disease. Anyone...

I turned the big 4-0 this year, so in attempt to cling onto my youth I am joining the 2017 Fight To End Cancer team. Over the next 6 months I will be training to compete in my first, and probably only, boxing match on May 27th. In addition to stepping into the ring, I will be raising money for The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, one of the top Cancer fighting facilities in the world. Most of us don't need to look too far outside of our circles to find someone we know or love who has been impacted by cancer. It's scary and can be incredibly destructive to those affected by it. As a father...

Hi Friends, I am very proud to be a part of the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  On Saturday May 27th, 2017 I will be stepping into the ring to compete in a charity boxing match with the goal of raising a lot of money to make a difference in the real fight.  The Fight to End Cancer. Cancer has touched all of us in some shape or form.  The promise of ending all cancers is certainly a cause worth taking a few lumps for and hopefully giving a few too ;-).  As the father of two amazing young girls I am particularly motivated by the promise...

Dear Friends, I am participating in the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I am raising research dollars – with a vision of reaching the ultimate goal of curing cancer. We have all had someone in our life affected by this disease. I fight for the survivors. They that have a larger impact in our lives than we realize. How they change you for the better. Force you beyond your comfort zone. A shoulder to lean on and a kick in the ass when required. And without them knowing, inspire you to take action and risk bigger than you ever thought possible. Who...

On May 27th, 2017 I will be stepping into the ring, participating in the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer.  This amazing event raises research dollars in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. The Princess Margaret is one of the top 5 Cancer Research Centres in the world and an international leader in the delivery of Personalized Cancer Medicine.  With your help the Foundation can move a little closer to reaching its ultimate goal - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime!  Like most, if not all of you, my life has been touched by Cancer.  I have felt frustration and helplessness...

Hello Friends, Family and Supporters, Starting January 2017, I will be spending 6 months training and raising money in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation by participating in the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer charity boxing event. Every day, we are all affected by cancer in some way. Whether it's a close friend or family member, or an acquaintance in our lives, we all have to face the wrenching effects of cancer - but that doesn't mean we have to face it alone. With your donations and support I'm committed to reaching my goal of $20,000, but your dollars and efforts aren't...

Brandon Glynn

August 18, 2016 - 4:28 pm

My name is Brandon Glynn, and I could not feel more honoured to be selected to represent and support The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation in its 6th annual Fight to End Cancer. Like so many, my life, and that of my family's, have been directly affected by cancer. Sadly, we can all share stories of how our lives have been impacted, but with ongoing research and support like what is offered to patients by Princess Margaret Hospital, I believe we can achieve the ultimate goal of finding a cure. To do this, they need assistance in raising both awareness and money. Taking part in this is the...

August 18, 2016 - 5:26 pm

My name is Kim Hamill.  I’ve never been punched in the face – but that’s about to change. On May 27, 2017 I will step in the boxing ring to participate in the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. In one form or another, we have all been affected by cancer.  I feel privileged to be a part of this fight and know that the next seven months will be demanding, both physically and mentally.  My fight pales in comparison to the real fight a person diagnosed with cancer faces every second, of every day.  I’m committed to providing hope and...

Dear Friends and Family, I am honoured to be participating in the 6th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I have a very personal interest in the goal of this event: to raise funds for cancer research at PMH.  As many of you are aware, I am a cancer survivor.   In 2004, when I was six months pregnant with our third child, I received my diagnosis of advanced thyroid cancer. I was told I needed immediate surgery to remove the tumour and affected lymph nodes, and that treatment would follow promptly after my baby’s birth.   Traces of the shock...

Mark Lockhart.  That’s the latest name I’m putting on the face of cancer. He died last year after a one-year battle with cancer at the age of 47.  His death affected a whole community. He was a single father of 2 boys.  And a lifelong friend to those lucky enough to have been part of his life. Mark is, unfortunately, only the most recent in a too-long list of cancer victims.  When I asked friends and colleagues how cancer had touched them, every single person had a story. Some tragic, some inspiring- all deeply felt.  That’s why I’m participating in the 6th Annual Fight to End...

To my Friends, Family and Colleagues, I am deeply honored to announce that I have been selected to fight in the 2017 Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. While my participation in this event includes training and boxing, more importantly I will be actively and persistently raising funds for cancer research. The ultimate goal of this venture is To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! When I step into the ring on May 27, 2017 I will be fighting in the memory of Dr. Lionel Everett Mcleod. Dr. Mcleod was not only a medical researcher of world renown, a Markle Scholar...

To My Friends And Family, Ending cancer is something very near and dear to my heart. Both Jennifer (my wife) and myself, have family that has cancer and have to live with it every day. While this is not something that that people want or like to talk about it needs to discussed. The more cancer is hidden, the less we think about it the less we do about it. Events like the Fight to End Cancer help bring these things into light. This year we are proud to be welcoming our first child into this world. I want to make sure that cancer is not something she will ever have to worry about in...

Dear Friends and Family I am participating in the 5th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I am raising research dollars - with a vision of reaching the ultimate goal - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! The introductory class was enough to suck me in to the world of boxing. The challenge of the sport was something I quickly gained an appreciation for. Since then it has been a goal of mine to train and fight in an amateur bout at least once in my life. When I found out about the Fight to End Cancer charity event, it definitely spoke out to...

Dear Friends and Family If you don't change the times, you'll be changed by them. Change is always worth fighting for. I'm participating in the 5th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. The FTEC team is committed to raising research dollars to help in the fight to change how cancer affects the lives of those it touches. Basically, we're trying to knock it the hell out. Dear Friends and Family I am participating in the 5th Annual Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. I am raising research dollars – with a vision of reaching the ultimate goal – To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! Fighting to end cancer is of interest to me because I have lost too many family members to it. Hello Friends and Family! I am joining the "Fight to end Cancer" June 4th 2016, I will be stepping in the ring to fight on behalf of the ultimate goal of ending cancer by raising money for the research of it! I am still amazed at the gross impact of this disease on a day to day basis and frustrated by its reach! I am fighting because I can, because the last plug I want to see pulled is on cancer! Not a dying relative or friend! I am proud to be part of this campaign and though I realize alone I can’t end cancer,  together with the team I have joined we can definitely provide a positive impact...

Throughout every stage of my life someone I have known and loved has been taken by cancer, from school chums to family members to colleagues and friends. I’ll never forget sitting down with my family for the news. A family friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and although there were reasons to be optimistic she had a battle ahead. So much runs through your mind. Is this real? Why is this happening and can it be stopped? How can I help? The answers to these questions didn’t bring much comfort. Cancer is very real and affects millions of lives; I certainly wasn't the only one who received such news that day. Many of the causes or means of prevention are yet to be discovered, let alone viable cures that don’t require invasive surgery or harmful...

I had the pleasure of attending the Fight to End Cancer Gala in 2014.  The room was filled with excitement and energy for a great cause.   This was the trigger point for me.  I wanted to take on the personal challenge and do my part with your support and contribute as much as I can and Fight to End Cancer. I am not a boxer, and I never in this lifetime would have imagined I would step into the ring for a live fight... Here we go! This fight for me is personal.  I lost my Mum to cancer 5yrs ago.   She was a determined and strong woman.  After finding out she had a brain tumour she...

I am raising research dollars - with a vision of reaching the ultimate goal - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! Everyone has in some way been touched by Cancer or will be in their lifetime, I know it's not a positive note to send but it's the truth. Personally, Cancer has impacted me a great deal...

Matt Lennox

January 28, 2015 - 9:33 am

Hi. I'm Matt Lennox. This is my Fight to End Cancer page. I served in Afghanistan with the Canadian Army in 2008/9; I started boxing after I came home as a constructive way of dealing with some of the complicated feelings most veterans have. Today I'm excited to take on a new fight - the fight against cancer. Like most people, I've lost people to cancer. One of those people was my grandfather Morley Abbott, who died far too young. Morley was a veteran of the Second World War; he was also an accomplished army boxer. I'm doing this in large part for him. With your help, I hope to reach my fundraising...

I am participating in the 4th Annual Fight to End Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret. For those of you who know me, I am sure you could NOT picture me stepping into the ring, in front of hundreds of people, punching someone.... but I'm doing it! I am physically and figuratively fighting for those that can't. Working at The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, I am overwhelmed with the number of stories I hear everyday about CANCER. Some are terrible and devastating and make me want to work that much harder everyday, so I don't have to hear anything like them again. On the other hand...

I am raising research dollars - with a vision of reaching the ultimate goal - To Conquer Cancer In Our Lifetime! In the spring, my other half expressed his desire to apply to be one of the fighters for FTEC 2015 - naturally I was supportive and pretty quickly decided I wanted to go down the road together.  Several months later I have no doubt that this journey will be one of the most physically and emotionally demanding to date, but also the most rewarding. My name is Jason Brydges and I’m honored to be participating in the 4th annual Fight to End Cancer for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. Like so many, my life, and that of my family, has been directly affected by cancer. A number of years ago I lost both my grandfathers to pancreatic cancer and more recently watched my mother fight, and ultimately beat, her cancer with the help of Princess Margaret Hospital. Additionally, my wife lost a friend to cervical cancer when she was only 28. Sadly, we could all share stories of how our lives have been impacted, but with ongoing research and...

January 27, 2015 - 3:43 pm

I am joining the Fight to End Cancer. Literally. On Saturday May 30st of this year, I'll be doing as much as I can to help the fight against cancer.
