The 2023 Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) Media Weigh-Ins were a HUGE success!  The event was held on Thursday May 18th, 2023 at the The El Mocambo in the heart of Toronto, where hundreds of guests were introduced to newly renovated concert space.  The walls, lined with historical performers who have played at the venue, provided a historical backdrop for this years event.

The night was unforgettable, with a feature performance by Mponda Kalunga, cocktails courtesy of TAG NO.5 VODKA and Proper Twelve Irish Whiskey, beer from our official partners at Labatt, a fantastic selection of food from the McEwan Catering kitchens and an incredible afterparty hosted by our El Mocambo family!
FTEC Founder and Executive Director, Jennifer Huggins, and her partner in crime and FTEC Head Coach and Director Virgil Barrow, along with their incredible crew of staff and volunteers, set the stage.  Media, sponsors, family and friends attended the event to celebrate the true heroes, the fighters.

Notable media appearances were made by CTV News Channel anchor and FTEC2023 gala host Angie Seth and many others.  Canadian pop sensation and FTEC Alumni, Karl Wolf, was also on-location cheering on the team. The evening was highlighted with a special appearance by Dr. Jonathan Irish — the Kevin and Sandra Sullivan Chair in Surgical Oncology at The Princess Margaret, University of Toronto.

An additional $2000 was raised by FTEC2014 alumni Mitch Krystantos, as he took to the stage with an impromptu fundraising auction. The event was a great appetizer in advance of the main course, the FTEC2023 Gala, being held at the Old Mill Toronto on Saturday May 27.

Special thanks go out to this years presenting sponsors, Landscape Plus and Grafton Apparel, for their ongoing support.  Their commitment, along with our incredible FTEC sponsors and family, have helped the event grow year after year.  We have raised nearly $2.5 million dollars to date for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Our Golden Key Lottery Partner, Humbertown Jewellers, also joined us this year.  Their generous donation of the prestigious OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra 150 Men’s and Women’s watches, which are sure to draw out the cheque books on fight night.

The real stars of the evening were the FTEC2023 fighters, as always!  They have a little over a week until they step into the ring so the weigh-in event gave them the chance to have a little fun with each other, burn off a little nervous energy and get out of the gym. The crowd was treated to some impromptu pose-offs, some sharp-witted trash talk and some seriously good hair.  All kidding aside, it is obvious that this group of fighters have developed some genuine connections that will undoubtedly carry on long after they step out of the ring.

The entire FTEC family would like to send out a special thank you to the El Mocambo for being incredible hosts and keeping the party going all evening. So much gratitude  to all those who came out to support, and who continue to support us, year after year.  It is because of people like you that beating cancer is possible!

About The Fight To End Cancer
The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) is a year-round initiative carried out by ambassadors, sponsors and volunteers worldwide.  Over $2,000,000 has been donated to date, since our inaugural year, in 2012.  Funds raised by FTEC are donated directly to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Each year we celebrate the incredible hard work and dedication of our FTEC family with a black-tie charity boxing gala.  This gala showcases ten men and women who represent our Official Fight Team.  Our goal is to raise funds for cancer research year-round with the support of the local community and business owners.  Let’s make a difference now in the fight to end cancer, for a long and successful future for everyone.  This is an event like no other and has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in Toronto. www.fighttoendcancer.com
