Defeat Is Not An Option | Introducing The 2017 Fight To End Cancer Fight Team

Thursday, April 20, 2017 — TORONTO, ON   The Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) is thrilled to announce its official 2017 Fight Team benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  The team have been training for six months in sanctioned, Olympic style boxing.  These ten brave men and women, with little to no previous boxing experience, will be stepping into the ring for our 6th Annual Fight To End Cancer Charity Gala.  The event is hosted by Angie Seth of Global News,  on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the historic Old Mill Toronto.
Our fighters are working hard to raise donation dollars towards their team’s overall goal of $200,000, to be directly donated to the foundation, in addition to spending upwards of eight hours per week training!  New this year, the fighters are able to direct where their individual donation dollars are going, making the fight an even more personal one; a fitting addition considering how many of them have been directly affected by this brutal disease.
(continues below video)

The team is made up of a diverse group of individuals, with our main event featuring two business leaders; Mark Benoit of MBCM versus Randy Woods of Nonlinear.  Randy will be entering the ring for the first time with FTEC, but fought previously in the Ottawa boxing fundraiser, most famously known for hosting the battle featuring our Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.  Our co-main event will feature a fierce battle between Kim Hamill of DLA Piper (Canada) LLP and Allison Dellandrea.  A fighter in and outside of the ring, Allison is a criminal prosecutor and cancer survivor, who specializes in prosecuting internet child exploitation cases.  The six other members of the team are equally impressive, and together, they are all taking time out of their busy lives to work together to get us one step closer to knocking out cancer for good.

Jennifer Huggins, FTEC founder and executive director keep the team on track, along with her partner in crime and Official FTEC Team coach, Virgil Barrow.  The duo continue to inspire those who are fortunate enough to step into their ring, with their unwavering commitment to the cause.  Jennifer continues to do it all while maintaining a very busy schedule as a 3 Star boxing Referee with AIBA International Boxing Association.   This job has taken her to Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and Russia in the last year alone.  She also moonlights as a magicians assistant, a gig that taps into her more artistic side as a former competitive figure skater.  To say she’s inspirational, is a understatement.  We asked Jennifer about her continuing commitment to the cause and what it represents to her:

“The reality of what the Fight To End Cancer represents is bittersweet. Something that threatens to tear our lives apart has brought so many people together.  Six years ago, I started this event to give back to the community.  The Fight To End Cancer has since become a community in itself; a family working together towards one goal.  My vision evolved from being a fundraiser, to becoming a global movement that we are all part of.  We are fighting for a future free of cancer, and we will succeed. Defeat Is NOT An Option!”

With only six weeks to go until fight night, and the event almost sold out, the fighters can still use your support in reaching their team fundraising goal supporting The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.  Go to www.fighttoendcancer.com to Donate!
