FTEC2017 FEATURED FIGHTER | KIM HAMILL

Leading up to Fight Night, we will be featuring one of the incredible men and women who have joined the Fight to End Cancer in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Meet our #FeaturedFighter, out of the Blue Corner Kim Hamill, sponsored by DLA Piper (Canada) LLP
We are excited to introduce our Bout 4 Fighter and the first of our Co-Main Event feature, Kim ‘The Hammer’ Hamill!  Legal Assistant by day and currently an amateur boxer by night!  Kim’s bought has been supported by her employer DLA Piper (Canada) LLP, where she has worked for four years.  So why the Fight to End Cancer?

“One word: Hope.  In some way, we have all been impacted by cancer, it doesn’t discriminate, it comes into lives and wreaks havoc.

Raising funds and stepping in the ring is challenging, but not nearly as challenging
as fighting for your life against this horrible disease.  I want to be part of providing hope for the future, so that generations after me don’t have to live with the fear of cancer.  I want people living with this disease to know that they are not alone in their fight.”

Not unlike her opponent, Kim has set, crushed and re-set her fundraising goal for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

“When the opportunity arose for me to participate in the Fight to End Cancer, my first feeling was excitement, then my nerves set in, then I felt a sense of dread.  The thought of having to raise $10,000 overwhelmed me and I wondered if could I do it, how would I do it, and who would support me?  I am a fairly shy and introverted person so it was a huge undertaking for me.  I knew that I was going to have to put myself out in ways I had never done before.  I reached out to friends near and far, coworkers new and old, I put myself out on social media like I never have in the past, and while it was hard for me to do, it has been so rewarding.

Fast forward to April and I have reached my goal and again, I am overwhelmed and thrilled.  This entire event has made me realize how truly lucky I am.  It means the world to me that I have reached my goal early and it has provided me with a sense of confidence I have never had.  It showed me that I have more love and support in my life than I realize.  I knew going into this that the Fight was so much bigger than just me and I have seen every day that there are so many people out there who are fighting the fight along side me.  That gives me the purpose to continue.  I have raised my goal to $12,500 and am 93% of my way there and I know I can make it.  Can I do $15,000?  I’m not sure, it’s a scary thought, but I am sure going to try.”

Kim’s original goal was to raise $10,000 for the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, but she is now looking to raise $12,500… Maybe $15,000… You can make a donation towards Kim’s fight HERE.

“I have decided to direct the funds that I raise to pediatric cancer because I believe, while a cancer diagnosis is extremely difficult on anyone, children have to learn to fight harder because they truly don’t understand it.”

What do you think of your opponent?

“I think Allison is a smart, strong, dedicated woman and mother.  She is the picture of what we are fighting for, someone who has survived a battle with cancer and continues fighting everyday, literally and figuratively.  I am inspired by her hard work and her strength.
She’s also a lawyer but I won’t hold that against her…”

Any final thoughts?
“The Fight to End Cancer is something that I have wanted to be a part of for a long time but the time was never right.  The tryouts happened this year and I knew I could not be a bystander.
This year I realized that there is never a perfect time, but there is a right time and that time is now. I was always afraid and scared of what it would entail, but I realize that I don’t want to stand by another year, it’s too important.”
And we are very glad you joined the fight Kim!
