Celebrating Canada 150th Fight To End Cancer Style

Article By: Jennifer Huggins

Canada will be celebrating its 150th birthday this weekend and millions of people will be finding different ways to mark this milestone across the country.  There’s something special about Canadians – besides always being sorry for being sorry – we are an incredibly generous nation.  This is something that has been felt by our organization since our inaugural event 5 years ago.  Our incredible country has helped us raise over $700,000.00 in support of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, in just half a decade!
What is it that makes Canadians so generous?

Teaching acceptance, kindness and generosity to our kids from a young age at home, in schools and sport, is clearly paying off.  This past week we had a young group come through the doors of Kingsway Boxing – home of the Fight To End Cancer fight team – to celebrate Sienna’s 10th birthday with a bang!  The birthday girl surprised the coaches, by opting to raise funds for the Fight To End Cancer, in lieu of gifts.

“I never met my Grandma Sandra – she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer when my mom was 17.  I bet she was an amazing, strong woman and my mom tells me all the time that she would have been so proud of me.  I want to help support FTEC in memory of her and in hopes that – one day – no one has to lose a mom, grandma, sister, niece, aunt, daughter or friend to cancer ever again!

Thanks for helping me Fight to End Cancer!”
